The first 80 fruit trees have arrived for a new community orchard project for Warley Ward!
This project will give Warley ward it’s very own orchards of top quality fruit trees: apples, pears, plums, gages, cherries and will be a real asset to the community.
FIRST PLANTING DAY on Sunday 12 February, meeting at 10am at Ashville Gardens, Pellon. POSTPONED!
80 trees to plant in 6 plots, so with 20 volunteers, it’s only 4 trees each! Please help if you can and don’t forget your spade!
This is a project started by Councillor Keith Hutson last May, and all the funding is now in place to create the orchards. Plots of land have been transferred to Halifax In Bloom, from the council, where the orchards are to be planted. Most of these plots are in the Pellon area, and many members of that community are looking forward to planting their new orchards. Cllr Hutson says that his aim is to keep on planting in Warley ward, year on year, so that everyone can reap the many benefits – community and environmental – that this excercise will bring.
