Dignity in Care – Volunteers Required

We Need Your Time and Help

We have all seen awful scenes of poor care and even abuse of vulnerable people on our television screens over recent months. We are trying to ensure that these things do not happen in our health and care services through joining the Dignity in Care initiative.

The Dignity in Care campaign began in November 2006, with the aim to inspire health & social care staff and local people to place dignity and compassion at the heart of care services, and in their communities. Here in Calderdale, we have a Dignity in Care Network that meets once every three months to share information and good practice and to raise awareness. This is a very informal meeting with speakers and presentations.

These meetings are open to all members of the public as Dignity in Care is the business of all of us. If you would like to attend the meetings, please send us an email to dignityincare.calderdale@rethink.org with your contact details and we will put you on our mailing list. Alternatively, please ring Jane Holliday on 01924 372853 and let me know you would like to be kept in touch.

We have lots of plans for awareness raising and promoting dignity and we are looking for volunteers. We are particularly looking for members of the public who would be interested in helping us by going into services and asking the people involved about their experiences so we can help the services to improve. We will provide training for this and you can put as much or as little time into it as you like. If you would be prepared to help us with this or anything else, please email me or telephone the number above. There is lots more information on the Dignity in Care web-site at

Many Thanks

Jane Holliday
