For Yorkshire Day 2016 Bankfield Museum will present an illustrated talk on George Walker’s “The Costumes of Yorkshire”.
In 1814 George Walker produced a book of 40 colour plates entitled “The Costumes of Yorkshire” showing occupational clothing of the working classes throughout the region.
“The county of York, from its great extent, maritime situation, natural productions, fisheries, manufactures, trade, and immense population, offers perhaps a greater variety and peculiarity of manners and dress than any other in the Kingdom.”
People wearing reproductions of the costume will bring this work to life in this illustrated talk.
