Safe and Warm Calderdale (formerly Warm Homes, Healthy People) will launch at a FREE event on Friday 2 November.
The project offers home fire safety visits and advice on energy saving and how to claim benefits you may be entitled to.
During the winter months (November to March), further help is available, including winter warmth packs, food packs and falls prevention measures such as ice shoes and car care kits.
Book your free place at Safe and Warm Calderdale.
We don’t normally post weather forecasts here on the Neighbourhood Schemes blog, but this week is set to be exceptionally cold so we thought we’d just send out a reminder to put the kettle on, find an extra layer and keep warm, safe and well. Temperatures are expected to reach their lowest point on Wednesday and Thursday, and it’s forecast to start getting milder at the weekend.
If you’re concerned about the warmth of your home or the cost of heating it, or are worried about a friend or neighbour in Calderdale, there are initiatives that may be able to help:

Green Doctor is a free service provided by Groundwork to help tackle fuel poverty.
The Green Doctor service involves a friendly home visit to assess your energy use, helping to identify how you could be using less and saving money. It could save you up to £110 per year or more on your energy bills.
- Are you on a low household income of less than £16,160 a year?
- Do you receive income or disability related benefits?
- Do you receive state pension credit?
- Do you receive tax credits and have children under 16 living at home?
If you can answer yes to any of these questions and live in or privately rent your own home in Calderdale, the Green Doctor home energy health check is for you. All of the following are available free of charge:
Energy efficiency advice
Draught proofing, tank jackets and radiator reflector panels supplied and fitted
A home energy information pack
Details of the insulation and heating grants available for owners and private tenants
