Angels Rest is a friendly new cafe conveniently located in the centre of Halifax, just away from the hustle and bustle. Right Up Your Street in Todmorden

RIGHT UP YOUR STREET!
Fed up of the rain and the floods? Why not come along to Todmorden
Central Methodist Church, Bramsche Square (by the side of the market)
on Thursday 29 November and celebrate the more positive side of
living in the Upper Calder Valley?
“Right Up Your Street” is a free event where you will be able to meet
representatives from over 20 different organisations operating
almost on your own doorstep. You’ll be surprised at the number of
services, social activities and volunteering opportunities there are.
Organisations attending include: Upper Valley District Nursing team,
University of the 3rd Age, HOUR car scheme, Calderdale Council’s  Home Energy and Handyperson service, Age Concern, Police, Calderdale Carers Project,, Alzheimers Society and many more. Incredible Edible will not only be encouraging people to grow their own veg but will also be providing free homemade soup for all. 
The Official Opening, by the Mayor of Todmorden Councillor Abid Hussain, will take place at 10.00am and the event wills finish at 2.00pm.

Organiser of the event, Judith Guy from Calderdale Carers Project, said

“Why not come along to this free event, enjoy a hot drink and soup,

Have a gossip and pick up loads of useful information.”

Macmillan coffee morning in Pellon

New Horizons Café and Charity Shop

The New Horizons Café and Charity Shop at Wheatley Lane, Lee Mount   is open 10am to 2.30pm, Monday to Friday (click here for a map).

All day breakfasts, sandwiches and soup are available.

Activities happening during the week include:

  • Wednesday – The Craft Group 12 noon—2.30pm.
  • Thursday – Contact Point 11am—12 noon. PCSO Julie Cartwright is available to listen and will try to solve any commnuity issues that are brought to her attention.
  • Thursday – the Mothers’ Union meets the first Thursday of the month.

Having a summer clear out?

The charity shop will take any second hand toys, bedding, clothes, bric-a-brac. All proceeds go towards supporting Noah’s Ark counselling.

High Five’s strawberry cream tea in Pellon

High Five are hosting a fun day and cream tea on  August 18th (2-4pm) at St Columba’s Church hall, Sandbeds Road, Pellon, Halifax.

There will be various demonstrations of crafts, including card-making and painting, plus a delicious strawberry cream tea. Entertainment will be provided by the High Five Singers. Also a stall, with bric-a-brac, cakes and plants so any contributions will be very welcome.  If you attend any High Five activities these can be handed in at the groups you attend, or on the day itself.  There will be a charge of £2 for the strawberry cream tea.

Jubilee charity coffee morning at Southowram

 A Jubilee charity coffee morning takes place on Tuesday, 5 June at Southowram Community Centre, Law Lane between 10 am and 12 noon.  Please join us for a cuppa and cakes.  There is no set charge but donations are welcome to the Woodlands Trust Jubilee Woods project.  This event is organised by members and friends of Boothtown & Southowram Methodist Church.

 

Celebrate LA Group this afternoon!

Just a quick reminder – Illingworth’s LA Group are holding their launch party this afternoon (Friday 30th March), from 2pm at Illingworth Fire Station. Drop in any time between 2 and 5 for nibbles and a glass of fizz in the sunshine, and help this new Neighbourhood Scheme group celebrate all they’ve achieved together.

Mayor of Calderdale, Cllr Nader Fekri, will be on hand from 3.30 to congratulate the group, and the committee will also be presented with a cheque from Calderdale Council.

Later today, members of the LA Group will go on to the North Halifax Neighbourhood Awards, where they have won the award for ‘services to the older generation’.

New year, new you in Illingworth and Bradshaw

21st December 2011: Illingworth and Bradshaw Neighbourhood Scheme have launched their new year programme. There’s something for everyone, with a new chess class and board games club, table tennis and new-look keep fit, as well as old favourites including Tai Chi, painting and of course the popular Crafty Club. New people are always given a warm welcome, so don’t be shy, try something new! Materials are provided.

Crafty Club’s Christmas refuge!

Illingworth’s Crafty Club will be opening throughout the festive period, so if you’re at a loose end, feeling a bit lonely, or you’ve just had enough of Christmas, call in for nibbles, a cuppa and a laugh!
 
Not just crafts but book-swapping, hand massages and a really good natter, as well as knitting, cardmaking, crochet, patchwork, rug-making…whatever you fancy doing really. Br​ing your own or use the materials provided. Tea and coffee is available.
 
Wednesdays, 21st and 28th December, 10:00 – 12:00 (and every  Wednesday) at Illingworth Fire Station community room.
 
 

Cake Sale at Pellon Network Centre

Action for Pellon Community Group are holding a cake sale in aid of BBC Children in Need at the Pellon Network Centre, Rye Lane on Saturday 19 November from 10am till 1pm. Enjoy cakes, buns, tea, coffee and a tombola.

Afterwards, why not pop down to the Christmas Fayre at Christ Church, Church Lane, Mount Pellon. Loads of activities from 12am till 3pm.

GupShup takes a holiday!

Our new scheme for South Asian Ladies (SALs) is taking a break for Ramadam. After a hectic schedule of ‘gentle’ exercise, crochet, Wii Fit and needlework, our ladies have more important things to concentrate on during August. But, we will back (where have I heard that before) in early September, with a late celebration for Eid and the activities starting a week later. Watch this space for further details.

Make a Quran case

Women only – a simple sewing workshop, taking place during our popular GupShup coffee morning next Thursday, 28th July. Come along any time from 10 til 12.30, join us for a cuppa and have a go at making a simple Quran case which you can then embroider if you wish. Materials provided (or bring your own if you prefer).
