Growing together at Threeways

Threeways-logo-1-300x78

A new exciting project encompassing food growing and all aspects of gardening has been launched at Three Ways.

This project will bring interested members of the community together to share ideas and tasks to transform the grow site into a productive and creative space. A wide range of plants will be grown for food and attracting beneficial wildlife to create a stimulating and inspiring environment. This will transform a former underused grassed area of little community interest into a valued resource managed by the community for the community.

With the fantastic support from Lloyds Bank, existing volunteers and local people the site has already been transformed.

3 ways polytunnelTwo plastic tunnels are in the works which will provide dry spaces protected from the great Pennine weather to grow delicate plants such as tomatoes and cucumbers and raise seedlings.

20 timber framed raised beds have been installed together with a rain water  collection system for watering plants.

3 ways veg beds

To provide on going support with all aspects of the development of the project and to work alongside local people a facilitator (Debs) has been appointed on a part time basis for 12 months.

if you have an interest in gardening, food, fresh air, exercise, would like the chance to get a little fitter, an opportunity to do something different, something social, learn some new skills or just want an excuse to get out of the house… Then this initiative could be right up your street.

All interested people can contact debs by email: debs@3ways.org.uk

The site will be open Mondays and Thursdays 10 am till 3pm every week for now. It is hoped that further funding can be obtained to extend the opening hours of the site to include weekends.

No appointments are necessary just turn up on either Monday or Thursday.

As this is a community resource it will be open to the public on designated days. This means that anyone can come to the site on these days and have a look around. We will publicise these public open days soon.

Calling all VCS organisations – your help is needed

Third Sector Trends Survey 2013:
mapping the Third Sector in Yorkshire & the Humber
If you work in the voluntary sector you’ll probably have been challenged on things like – how many people are employed in the sector or are there really that many organisations?
This is one of the reasons Involve Yorkshire & Humber is producing the 2013 Third Sector Trends survey, so organisations can have reliable evidence for bids, planning services and demonstrating the contribution of the VCS to the economy and communities. Click here to take the survey now
We want as many voluntary and community organisations across Yorkshire and Humber – small and large, volunteers and staffed- to fill in the survey. The Survey will provide robust data about the size, value, activity, volunteering and geographical spread of the voluntary sector for Yorkshire and Humber. This data will support the work of voluntary organisations and provide valuable information for other sectors concerned about their communities.
We will conduct this work through an anonymous online questionnaire, which we want to go to as many voluntary and community organisations of every type as possible. It takes 10-12 minutes to complete. If you have problems using the survey link, here is the web-address to go to:  https://www.survey.bris.ac.uk/durham/thirdsectortrends2013yorkshireandhumber
