Age UK Calderdale and Kirklees are having an Electric Blanket Screen Testing day at the Age UK Choices Centre, The Square, Woolshops, Halifax, HX1 1RJ on Thursday 28th February 2013 between 10.00 am and 4.30 pm. We have the capacity to test up to 100 blankets.
Blankets will be tested by G.E.M.S. (SW) Ltd who specialise in electrical testing and inspection and have worked with Age UK’s for many years.
Please note we are expecting a large number of blankets to be tested so clients will need to make a booking in advance by ringing the Choices Centre on 01422 399830
The testing is for ONE day only. We will not be providing it at any other time this year.
Please also note that we only carry out a safety screening/electrical test on blankets. We do not provide repairs and clients must make their own arrangements to bring their blankets to the centre for testing.
If a blanket fails the screening tests we can replace it free of charge with a washable electric mattress topper of the same size (that is we will replace a single for a single, double for a double, king for a king). We are unable to offer any other free replacement alternatives such as overblankets.
Whilst clients are waiting they can take the opportunity to chat to any of our friendly staff and volunteers to find out more about us and our services.

Age UK ‘Bobble Day’
Winter months have a devastating impact on many older people and that’s why Age UK Calderdale and Kirklees is inviting you to join thousands of others across the UK raising money for Age UK’s Bobble Day on Friday 8th February 2013.
Any money that you raise will help Age UK Calderdale and Kirklees warm up our older people. We help by:
• Providing information guides and tips on how to stay warm in your home
• Providing thermometers, so older people know when to turn on your heating
• Offering benefits checks and advice about winter benefits
• Administering grants to those in need of winter warmth . Click here to find out more.
Get Involved:
Wear it Woolly
We are asking everyone to come to work, your local community venue or even school on Friday 8th February dressed in anything woolly. Be it a funny jumper, a sherpa hat or a colourful scarf. Each person pays £2 to take part, helping raise money and awareness. Every woolly item worn will help us Warm Up Calderdale and Kirklees and reach out to even more older people.
Warming Morning
Get Bobble Day off to a great start with a Warming Morning. Whether you serve up speciality teas, frothy coffee or hot chocolate with whipped cream, you can ensure your friends and families begin the day with a warm feeling inside. Why stop there? Give your guests home-baked cookies to dunk or serve up bacon butties for breakfast.
Do Bobble Day your own way
There are a whole host of different ways you can help us warm up Britain. So let your imagination run free.
If you would like to get involved contact Judith Churley at Age UK Calderdale and Kirklees on 01484 535994 or jchurley@acck.org.uk

Safe and Warm Calderdale – keeping your home warm this winter
Safe and Warm Calderdale (formerly Warm Homes, Healthy People) will launch at a FREE event on Friday 2 November.
The project offers home fire safety visits and advice on energy saving and how to claim benefits you may be entitled to.
During the winter months (November to March), further help is available, including winter warmth packs, food packs and falls prevention measures such as ice shoes and car care kits.
Book your free place at Safe and Warm Calderdale.
Cold weather warning!
We don’t normally post weather forecasts here on the Neighbourhood Schemes blog, but this week is set to be exceptionally cold so we thought we’d just send out a reminder to put the kettle on, find an extra layer and keep warm, safe and well. Temperatures are expected to reach their lowest point on Wednesday and Thursday, and it’s forecast to start getting milder at the weekend.
If you’re concerned about the warmth of your home or the cost of heating it, or are worried about a friend or neighbour in Calderdale, there are initiatives that may be able to help:

-
Energy efficiency advice
-
Draught proofing, tank jackets and radiator reflector panels supplied and fitted
-
