Happy Christmas from the Crafty Club!

Illingworth’s Crafty Club wished everyone a very happy Christmas today as they celebrated with drinks and nibbles. We just had to share the lovely picture with you all!

The club is open throughout the festive season when many activities close, so if you fancy a cuppa, a laugh (and by the looks of it some lovely food) drop in – they meet every Wednesday, 10 til 12 at Illingworth Fire Station community room (round the back).

Open doors this Christmas

Of all the times of the year not to be on your own, Christmas is right up there.  There are plenty of examples of people and organisations opening their doors (and hearts) to those living on their own – but nowhere near enough.

To help combat that, national charity Abbeyfield is launching a nationwide campaign, Companionship at Christmas – a home-from-home alternative for older people wishing to spend the festive period with others. They are inviting members of local communities with elderly neighbours living alone, family members in need of respite support and those who plan to spend the Christmas period alone to get in touch with Abbeyfield.

They are offering overnight stays and Christmas lunches throughout the festive season (24th December – 4th January) across Abbeyfield houses nationally – totally free of charge.

Locally, Ing Royd, on Broomfield Avenue, Halifax (near the hospital) will be one of the properties serving lunches on Christmas day. If you know of someone who might benefit, get in touch by calling 0845 052 3553. Or visit www.abbeyfield.com/Pages/CompanionshipatChristmas.asp.

Crafty Club’s Christmas refuge!

Illingworth’s Crafty Club will be opening throughout the festive period, so if you’re at a loose end, feeling a bit lonely, or you’ve just had enough of Christmas, call in for nibbles, a cuppa and a laugh!

Not just crafts but book-swapping, hand massages and a really good natter, as well as knitting, cardmaking, crochet, patchwork, rug-making…whatever you fancy doing really. Bring your own or use the materials provided. Tea and coffee is available.

Wednesdays, 21st and 28th December, 10:00 – 12:00 (and every  Wednesday) at Illingworth Fire Station community room.

Calderdale Home Safety Forum event in Mytholmroyd

Are you safe in your home

Our next event will be at Mytholmroyd Community Centre on Weds 19th October (from 10.00am to 2.00pm).
We’ve got around 18 organisations attending so far, including: Fire, Police and Ambulance services, Age UK, Pennine Housing, Falls Prevention Team, Calderdale Council’s Adaptation and Handyperson service, Upbeat, Calderdale Carers Project, Mental Health Team and many more.
As usual, free admission and a hot drink will be available to all. We have a local Mother & Toddler group selling sandwiches + home made cakes and biscuits, at a small cost, to raise a little money for their group.
There is a very large car park immediately in front of the venue with ground level access, via the front entrance, to the main hall which we will be using.
There is already a lot of publicity work going on. In addition to a large advert of the front page of the local newspaper, we already have posters up in local shops and businesses + mentions on various local websiites. We have also managed to persuade the Calder Valley Club in Mytholmroyd to bring their regular Weds members along, in their mini bus, for morning coffee and a look around.
